Confidence, capability and safety in the water.

Like many children, my swimming journey began at just four years old. I progressed through swimming lessons before qualifying as a Lifeguard, Assistant Swim Teacher, and eventually a fully qualified Water Safety Ireland Swim Teacher.

After spending several years teaching, I realised there was a gap in Carlow for swimming lessons delivered through the Water Safety Ireland programme. I wanted to create a swim school that combined high-quality teaching with a clear pathway for progression.

I also noticed that many swimmers complete a series of levels without a clear next step. While levels are a great way to measure progress, my vision was to create something that went beyond simply achieving certificates. I wanted every stage of our programme to have a purpose; building confidence, developing strong swimming ability, and teaching lifelong water safety and lifesaving skills that could make a real difference both in and out of the water.

That vision became Star Splash Academy.

From a child’s very first splash in the water, our pathway continues through water confidence, stroke development, water safety, junior squad, senior squad, junior lifeguarding, Water Safety Ireland awards, lifeguarding, swim teaching, and instructor training. Every stage is designed to build on the last, giving swimmers the opportunity to continue developing their skills for years to come.

There is nothing more rewarding than watching a nervous beginner grow into a confident swimmer. Seeing children and adults achieve goals they never thought possible and develop a lifelong love and respect for the water is what inspires me every day.

At Star Splash Academy, our mission is simple: to provide a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment where every swimmer can build confidence, learn lifelong water safety skills, and reach their full potential. We believe swimming shouldn’t end when you’ve completed a set of levels, it should be the beginning of a lifelong journey.
